An individual is caught leaving the scene of a beating. The victim is lying in a pool of blood, and multiple blood-spatter patterns are on the wall nearby. The person says he was acting in self defense when he hit the victim in the head with a broomstick. Forensic experts in the analysis of bloodstain pattern identify several groupings of convergence occur at several heights on the wall from about 5.5 feet high to less than a foot up the wall. Is the detainee telling the truth about striking the victim in self defense? Why or Why not? What does the evidence of the bloodstain patterns suggest happened?
