Aquatic Ecology

See attached file for full problem description.

(1) Describe the change in stream hydrograph over time.
(2) What might have caused the change you described?
(3) What are two possible effects on either biological or chemical parameters that might be expected to result from this change in hydrology?

Here is an example of changes in hydrologic parameters in part due to
human influence

Change in stream hydrograph

Given the graph above:

(1) Describe the change in stream hydrograph over time.

(2) What might have caused the change you described?

(3) What are two possible effects on either biological or chemical
parameters that might be expected to result from this change in
hydrology?

Solution Summary

A number of factors influence the shape of the hydrograph. Elongate basins tend to exhibit flatter hydrographs because it takes a longer time for water to move from the head to the recording station at the mouth of the basin. Travel time is less for circular basins resulting in a more peaked hydrograph. Land cover is another important control over the shape of a stream hydrograph.
