Non-validity of theory of spontaneous generation
Refute or support - Flies come from rotten meat because they always appear where there is meat rotting. Later Louis Pasteur confirmed the non-validity of theory of spontaneous generation.
Source of flies cannot be rotten meat. It was proved by Francesco Redi. He proved that maggots could not be created from meat. Boiled meat when kept in closed jar could not create flies. However, when kept in open developed flies.
