Excretion is the elimination of waste metabolic substances which, if permitted to accumulate, would prevent the maintenance of a balanced state. Major excretory products are ammonia (ammonotelic), urea (ureotelic ) and uric acids (urecotelic). Most aquatic animals including many fishes are ammonotelic. Mammals, Amphibians, Sharks, and some bony fishes are ureotelic. However, Birds, Insects, snails, reptiles are urecotelic.
