5) A family has just come into the local office of a lending agency asking for a bill consolidation loan.  Payments fo a new car, televison, stero, bedroom set and central air conditioning have become excessive.  The haead of the family does not have a steady source of income and real help is now needed.  Is this an example of purposeful consumer behaviour or has this family been manipulated into making  unwise purchases?

8) Would it be equally necessary to understand consumer behaviour if the economic system were not one of free enterprise?  In other words is the subject matter only of interesst to those capitalistic systems or does it also have relevance for socialism and for communism where they still exist?
