Organic Chemistry/2542

The question is the following:
1) Compare and contrast the reactions of ethanal and benzaldehyde with
(a) aqueous potassium permanganate
(b) aqueous potassium cyanide
(c) aqueous sodium hydroxide
(d) 2,4-dinnitrophenylhydrazine

2) What do we understand by (a) homologous series and (b) isomerism
(a) Give the full structural formula of the three compounds having the molecular formula C3H8O. How would you distinguish chemically between these three compounds. Outline a synthesis of any one of them starting from ethanol.
(b)When 25 cm '3 of a gaseous alkene X are completely burnt in excess oxygen, 100 cm'3 of carbon dioxide are produced, both volumes being measured under the same conditions of temperature and pressure. Ozonolysis of X gives methanal and Y (emprirical formula (C3H6O) which does not give a precipitate on boiling with Tollen's reagent. Identify X and Y, explaining your reasoning, and write equations for the reactions involved.

If you can show me the explanations and reactions for each of the questions. Also explain what is going on in the reactions. If possible would be helpfull.

Thank You
