Hello,
I am having trouble predicting the products with a cyclic product and alkyne off the side. Here are two I could use some help with.
5 carbon ring, carbon 1 has a carbon attached which also is triple bonded to another carbon (this end carbon just has a H attached.) There is also a double bond between carbons 1 and 2 in the ring. I need to be able to predict the product when this reacts with KMnO4 in H30+. I know that CO2 (I think) is produced but I am having trouble predicting what else will be produced. Here is my best graphical representation of the molecule.
5 carbon ring (single bond) C (triple bond) C (single bond) H
Also, there is a double bond in the ring between C1 and C2
Here is another problem, I have a 6 carbon ring. C1 has a C which is also triple bonded to a Carbon which is attached to a H. Carbon 2 is attached to a methyl group. There is a double bond between C3 & C4 in the ring. I need to be able to predict this reaction with O3. Once again, I believe that CO2 is produced but I don't know what the other product is.
This is my first post. What is the best way to describe the molecules? Is there a program that will do it? Or is it just best to draw it on paper and scan it in?
