Fusion Plasma Physics

I am able to understand the general idea as far as this goes (Tokamak & Deuterium-Tritium to He ions), but the more advanced concepts of this are confusing. What actually happens in D-T fusion reaction? How much thermonuclear energy does it yield? How does the Maxwell-Boltzman distribution tie into plasma? What about Debye length and Coulomb potential? What about Coulomb collisions? I do understand that Rutherford scattering ties into this somehow. How does electromagnetic theory tie into this? I do understand the basic gist of it, but the more advanced ideas are what is confusing to me. I can't even look at some of these equations without feeling intimidated.
