Personality Trait Assessments In Applied Setting

I am looking for help in the introduction, and also some relevant sources for the implications of this research for the use of personality trait assessments in applied settings such as clinical/counseling, I/O, and/or health care.

I would like any sources or relevant information that will help me in this paper. I am also struggling with the Introduction and what to include. The outline is attached.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Here is the assignment:

Prepare an in-depth analysis of the following topic based on the relevant sections of the text and at least five additional references that directly relate to the topic:

Pervin, Cervone, and John state that the recent developments in research on personality traits suggest that:
A consensus is emerging concerning the fundamental dimensions of personality traits: and There is possible biological and evolutionary basis for inherited aspects of these traits.

Summarize and critique the evidence for these two suggestions. Finally, discuss the implications of this research for the use of personality trait assessments in applied settings such as clinical/counseling, I/O, and/or health care.

Outlines are tentative at best. Often, once we begin writing the paper
we find that some things better and have a better flow in a different
order, and the likes. It sounds like the argument is the age-old nature
versus nurture controversy. In other words, the question is, Are we
born with a complete set of personality traits (stable) or do we learn
them (dynamic), or is it a little of both?

Introduction

Biological Theories of Personality Traits

Emerging: Learning and Situational Theories of Personality Traits

Implication for Practice

Conclusions

I. In the introduction section you will briefly introduce your topic and
what your paper will include, and what it will not (about Ѕ page).
This introductory paragraph ends with something like this… The purpose
of this paper is to investigate the biological theories of personality
traits, as well as the recent emerging learning theories. It addresses
the implications for practice, and then draws some final conclusions.

II. This next section could also be called “Biological Evidence of
Personality Traits”, but I will leave the exact wording up to you. In
this section, you will actually be doing a literature review of what has
been (about 4 pages depending on the length of your other sections, but
this would be about appropriate).

III. This section addresses the emerging theories (about 4 pages
adjusted accordingly, but 4 pages seems appropriate), as well what lead
up to this dissatisfaction of biological theories. What issues do the
biological theories not explain? The literature suggests, for example
that the real discomfort came with the Stodgill’s (1976) landmark
study of leadership personality traits. For a long period, inherited
traits were sidelined as learned and situational factors were considered
to be far more realistic as reasons for people acquiring leadership
positions. Paradoxically, the research into twins who were separated at
birth along with new sciences such as Behavioral Genetics have shown
that in fact far more is inherited than was previously supposed. This
suggests that there is an interaction between biological and inherited
and learned and situational factors of personality traits. Others would
suggest that the stable part is actually the temperament versus
personality traits, per se. Interesting debate. I attached some
information of the earlier theories that I though may be helpful and
from which you can draw from.

IV. This section will addresses the implications for practices in the
specified areas (about 1 –1 Ѕ pages). This is exactly what it says
find literature addressing the implications, such as reading the
conclusions of other articles. You can also make some on your own as
well.

V. The conclusion section (about 1 page) draws the information together,
where the debate is now, and where you suspect it is moving in the
future? Do you think both theories have a place? Is there an
interaction between the biological and learned and situational theories?
Do some theories explain some aspects of behavior better than the
others? Possibly end with suggestions for End with the future research
and a statement that leaves the reader interested in exploring this
topic further.

FINAL COMMENTS The outline headings are not in stone and you can use
wording that fits for you. However, some variant of my wording is
necessary to include what the assignment is asking for. The suggested
pages per section will, of course, be adjusted as to whether the paper
is a 10 or 12 page paper, however be sure to keep the sections keep to
around the same percentage as suggested above. Mainly, the amount of
research in the topic area will dictate the length, but remember that it
is your paper and that you do not have to include all the research in
the area. Choose four or five main studies in the area and how they
impacted the personality trait research. As to length of each section,
the marks will often be allotted according to how well you have did each
section, so it is not wise, for example to have one small paragraph for
the conclusion or to have the emerging section really short in
comparison to the biological section—balance is the key word here I
guess. I hope this helps and take care. Good luck with your final copy.

Unfortunately, your previous Posting #39991 can only be accessed by the
OTA who originally responded. I am not that OTA, but I have a lot of
information about personality theories and will provide you with what I
have.

If you need me to more specific (see further discussion in my final
comments), please provide feedback as such and I can see what we can put
together to get you to a place where you are comfortable completing your
assignment. Often referring to specific Chapters of texts may not be
very helpful because most OTA may not have access to your text.
Therefore, for future reference, it may be better to include your
assignment and what the chapters are about or attach the chapters,
better yet (your outline may have done this though).

If you need your author’ perspective on any of these, I would suggest
going to the back index of your text and it will list every page that
the author deals with your specific topic. What perspective is your
author writing from? That is important to know, then you will ONLY then
need to click on the theory below, and that will be his views as
describe in the theory - on personality in general and also how he deals
with specific topics. It may be time consuming, but unfortunately
*smile*, that is that what assignments are all about. The following
sources may be helpful, but without your outline… it is really hard to
tell.

FINAL COMMENTS I hope these sources will be of help to you. If you are
looking for your author’s perspective, the text will give their stance
upfront in the preface or the title sometimes alerts you to their biases
(i.e., social learning versus psychoanalytic). Once you determine that,
it arms you with important information. As mentioned above, all you
need to do then is click on that perspective that your author is coming
from, and this will give you the basic tenets of what your author thinks
about personality in general and also about specific topics. Usually,
the author will sum up a section and add their perspective in the
summary also, so he or she may have it all summed up for you. Sometimes
it is not that easy though, and it is about finding out the perspective
the author is writing from. Then everything is simple from there, as
everyone who holds certain theories has similar ideas about human nature
and behavior. I wish I had your text in hand, but I do not. For other
sources, if I have an outline, I can probably offer other suggestions.

So please provide feedback and I will provide further helped if
required, as I know what it is like to be stuck on an assignment.

Good luck and take care.
