Aspects of child labor and how it is affected by culture

You meet with several of the mayor's staff who have daily contact with citizens at all social strata. You want to get a  perspective on their outlook. Is it ethnocentric or culturally relativistic ? You engage them in a conversation about child   labor. You ask them which of the following statements do they agree with and why ?

1. Child labor is outlawed in the United States because it is exploitive and deprives children of a chance to get an education. It should be outlawed by the rest of the world for the same reasons.

2. Children work in many developing nations because their help is needed to run family farms or cottage industries such as  carpet weaving. Working also provides children with useful skills that they might not otherwise learn.
