Work Experience: Palo Alto College
2000-2005
I was an adjunct instructor of developmental English, teaching the second course in the developmental cycle, Basic English II. I earned outstanding ratings on classroom and student evaluations and created a web-enhanced developmental English curriculum to support my face-to-face classroom activities.

Palo Alto College
1998-2005
As the English Instructional Skills Specialist for the English Learning Center, I taught SPICE (non-course-based developmental education) to those students who had failed the college-level entrance examination. I was responsible for generating the curriculum for this course, and developed web-based and face-to-face versions of the class.

My primary responsibility during my seven years, however, was the hiring, training, and supervision of the writing tutoring staff of the ELC. In addition, I engaged in one-on-one and small group tutoring in writing, grammar, literature, reading, and a variety of other subjects.

During my time as Specialist, I developed Palo Alto College's first Online Writing Lab (1999), and I was integral to tutoring services receiving College Reading and Learning Association's Level I Tutoring Certification (2004).

Floresville High School

1997-1998
As a secondary English teacher, I taught 6th-12th grade English to juvenile probationers in a multi-level classroom.

Message to Students
and/or Parents:
As an experienced teacher of English composition and grammar, I have the ability to quickly diagnose student needs in these areas and to create individualized instructional plans to help meet these needs. I am dedicated to the teaching of writing as a process and embedding grammar concepts within this process. This approach may not always yield the fastest results, but it does generate real, long-term change, ultimately producing writers who understand that their growth is ongoing, resulting only from lifelong practice.
