The elements of sexual harassment entail the attempt to convey, portray, or initiate unwanted sexual advances in any manner toward someone who doesn't want these advances. The basic elements include making the person feel uncomfortable, making the person feel objectified, making the person feel threatened by the harassment, and attempting to invade the person's personal space. A mock case scenario would be a male employee who works at a call center, the male employee works around many female employees who have taken a keen interest in the young male. The male employee is consistently objectified and stared at by the women while they also gossip within ear reach of the employee about how they find him sexually attractive. A female supervisor wants to date the male employee and consistently brings the male employee into her office under the pretext of mistakes but offers to take him to dinner to discuss these mistakes despite being rebuffed over and over again.

To prevent this type of scenario requires for stringent rules and guidelines to be placed into the workplace through the use of a workplace manual that explicitly highlights acceptable and unacceptable behavior within the workplace. Each organization must develop their own guidelines and workplace rules that are in accordance with the federal statutes, but it is up to administration to enforce these regulations with swift and quick action. The necessity of supervisors to ensure that all incidents of alleged harassment are thoroughly investigated and handled in a fair and equal manner is vital for ensuring that sexual harassment doesn't start within the workplace among employees or supervisors.
