One of Durkheim's essential ideas or insights regarding ethics, is that he agreed with Kant's perspective that one's ethical actions are partially due to their duty to act in socially acceptable ways in respect to ethics and morals. But Durkheim also held the perspective that an individual acted ethically and or morally out of their own character and beliefs in the need to act in a manner that brought about the common good for themselves and society at large.
