    An Introduction to Treating Insomnia

    This lecture describes a cognitive behavioral approach to treating sleep onset and sleep maintenance insomnia. This lecture will use proven methods such as thought stopping, keeping a sleep diary and relaxation training. We will also get an over view of rules to improve sleep hygiene. A 6 to 8 week treatment schedule will be developed. This program will assist clients in returning to a lifestyle of more restorative and restful sleep. This lecture is ideal for psychology students, both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

    In the first part of the series, the different treatments that are available for treating insomnia are identified and explained. Next, the intake process is explained so the viewer can understand how the process of treating insomnia begins. This first video concludes with an explanation of what a sleep journal is.
