Quantitative research is used to test hypotheses. Quantitative research uses data to establish cause and effect of phenomena described in theory. It makes empirical observations and uses them to make critical interpretation of theory(1). Quantitative research tests theories to improve them. The role of theory in quantitative research is to test and retest the theories and if the theories are falsified, they are either changed or dismissed. In addition, it gives ways of making sense of empirical data, helps researcher to connect his study to the vast base of knowledge to which other researchers contribute.
