How a wiki works:
Wikis are cloud based authoring tools. Participants can edit the work in progress and their contributions are tracked for accountability. For an individual who has an internet connection and a browser, he clicks on the wikis page edit link, the script sends the text to the individual's browser in an editable form allowing the person to modify the content of the page (1). When the person presses the save button the modified text is sent back to the wiki server, which replaces the existing text file with the changed version. Wikis work because it is a flexible collaborative communication tool which helps create content specific web sites. The wikis work because people add material to the page. The wiki is useful because it is on the internet and can be accessed and contributed to from any part of the world where there is internet access. In the field of education wikis allow teachers and students to collaborate in activities that might not be possible in classrooms (2).
