It is wise to be cautious of packaged curriculum since in early childhood the developmental range of normal is vast and wide. They will not all be ready for the same thing at the same time. Play is very important, however, it takes planning and observations by the teacher to know what opportunities for exploration to provide.

It is important to know if the curriculum will be taught through themes, integrated, traditional subject-based or is it emergent? If it is a philosophical-based curriculum, such as Montessori or Reggio Emilia inspired, what requirements are there to document children's learning. Will the teacher be teaching daily lessons that are taught in isolation or are they connected to a theme? Are their standards to consider?
