Confucianism:
Confucius who lived from 557-479 B.C. was the most revered person in Chinese history. Confucianism is based mainly on his moral teachings. There is also neo Confucianism of the Hsing-li school dating from the twelfth century AD.
Confucius was a public servant who worked as a Chief Minister and Secretary of Justice. He was able, through moral persuasion alone, to regain for his native state some territory that was lost to a neighbouring state. He brought peace to his land such that items lost on the highway were not stolen. Later he embarked on a 15 years of travelling from state to state offering his services to princes and kings. But none of them put his teachings into practice. Eventually he retired to a place called Lu for a life of teaching, studying and writing. He taught both those who could pay and those who could not pay. He was a very disciplined man who practiced what he taught.
