Democracy is defined as "a government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. After reading and doing some research on Gender Equality and Democracy, I have learned that the democratic ideals of transparency, accountability and inclusiveness can't and will not be achieved without a sense of law and direction. Having policies in place to address practices of different measures also that directly speak out against gender inequalities. As a democracy we should set aside the viewpoints of men and women so we can allow ourselves to use social, political and economic fabrics of our societies. So not only just for women but our future and confidence in young women to be able to reach their full potential and be held to the same standards as men .In order for gender equality to exist in today world as a state and government we have to void out and remove obstacles that hinder women from taking a stronger stance that denies women the right to communicate effectively. If women are able to in a civil society, debate and address commonly on different positions regards to the constitution and electoral laws. If democracy continues to disregard women voices and opinions and their rights, it would continue to be a democracy for half its citizens.

Without true gender equality, there is limited value to a democracy. Men and women must have the same rights and same access for there to be democracy. Democracy is the power given to the people for them to use and without both genders having equality, the power is only in the hands of one side. This is an unacceptable ideal if democracy is power vested in the people, since part of the people are not equal.
When women could not vote, then there were limits to the democracy. Women had no say in the way laws were written, enforced, or reviewed for fairness. It limited the ability of women to own property or have a say in how their lives were lived. This is not the ideal of democracy. We see democracy as the sharing of power among the people, but in reality it is the majority, those with the power that gain the most from a free system that is in the hands of the people. How does one address the rights of all the people if half of them are without equal say.
The improvements in the place and value of women have helped in many ways. Women do have a say in how government is handled. The right to vote was a big step. Other steps in equality included the right to own property, serve on juries, and have access to education and other factors that elevate women to statuses where men only would have power. The problems are not solved. Not every woman has equal access to leadership roles. It has improved with women running companies and serving in legislatures and in Congress.
