Attachment theory is a psychological, evolutionary and ethological theory concerning relationships between humans. The corcerstone of attachment theory is that a young child needs a secure relationship with his/her primary adult caregiver in order to maintain emotional stability. Therefore, parental responses have a strong impact on the inner wokings of the child's schema, leading to either positive or negative working models that will become the driving forces in that child's actions, reactions, and expectations in later relationships.
