A. Goleman's Model (Mixed Model)

The model introduced by Daniel Goleman (1998) focuses on EI as a wide array of competencies and skills that drive leadership performance. Although the names vary depending upon researcher (e.g., Epstein 1998; Feldman 1999; Goleman 1995; Salovey and Mayer 1990) the dimensions of EI can be broken into two main categories: interpersonal (empathy and perceiving others' emotions) and intrapersonal (self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-motivation). One way to look at Goleman's theory as including the following four constructs:

1. Self-awareness - the ability to read one's emotions and recognize their impact while using gut feelings to guide decisions.
2. Self-management - involves controlling one's emotions and impulses and adapting to changing circumstances.
3. Social awareness - the ability to sense, understand, and react to others' emotions while comprehending social networks.
4. Relationship management - the ability to inspire, influence, and develop others while managing conflict. (Goleman, 1998)

Other explanations offer s fifth domain - motivating yourself - so identified the five domains of EI as:

1. Knowing your emotions.
2. Managing your own emotions.
3. Motivating yourself.
4. Recognising and understanding other people's emotions.
5. Managing relationships, i.e., managing the emotions of others. (Chapman, 2000, 2009)

According to Goleman's model, each domain includes a set of emotional competencies. According to this model, emotional competencies are learned capabilities and not innate talents that a person must develop in order to achieve outstanding performance (Bradley & Greaves, 2009). Instead Goleman argues that people are born with a general emotional intelligence that determines their ability for learning emotional competencies (Boyatzis, Goleman, & Rhee, 2000).

B. Salovey and Mayer's Model (Ability-based Model)
