I would say the three most prevalent would be privacy, fear, and anger. The need for privacy laws and the ability to access records, of actual cases of violence, are protected by laws. This is done in part to protect the victims and especially the children involved in violent acts. While this is good for the victims, it hampers and makes it difficult to access records that could give researchers a better view of the actual situations and outcomes for many types of family violence.
