Dear Student,

Matched Subjects Design

Matched subjects designs are often used in numerous areas such as marketing, education, scientific research, etc.. It gives researchers an ideal way to compare treatments without having to use large and randomized groups. In randomised groups, the samples are gathered in a process that gives all the individuals in the population equal chances of being selected.

For an example, a study to compare two novel methods for teaching reading can use a matched subject research program. The current method and a new method will be compared. First we select two groups of children and match pairs of children across the two groups according to ability, using the results of their last reading comprehension test. If we want to test another method, we need to find three comparable children to compare between the three groups.
